Geocache Description:

Treshnish: Whisky Cave
Just so you know...there's no whisky there now.

Out of sight from the raised beach above, and accessible only through a grassy ravine, down which a path runs to the pebble beach, the Whisky Cave is thought to have been used as an illegal distillery, as its name suggests.

The huge mound of earth at the front of the cave was built to block any possible view of the fire from passing boats and inside the cave the stone circle and platforms are thought to be the remains of the illicit still.

Take great care on the descent to the cave, especially after rain, when conditions underfoot can be slippery. It is this short section (plus the walk to get here) that gives this cache its terrain rating.

The co-ordinates will seem to take you to a point directly above the cave; there is no direct descent, other than for water! Walk a little farther, to the top of an obvious gully (see Reference Point below), and descend from there, with care.

You may find it useful to take a torch.
