'
Scotland the Quest' is a countrywide cache hunt where you have a special cache hidden in each region of Scotland.
28 cachers have come together to place 32 caches around Scotland to create this series.
You should also make a note of the N and W numbers contained in the cache if you intend to complete the QUEST and find the bonus cache............... 'Good Luck'
Please do not remove the bonus numbers from the cache container.
To save any bushwhacking follow the south side track round the thicket from the main car park. The cache location is near Loudoun Hill on a ridge that runs south west overlooking the battlefield where, in 1307, a Scottish army led by King Robert the Bruce defeated the English during Scotland's 'Wars of Independence'.
Between the ridge and Loudoun Hill runs the River Irvine and it is only a short distance from here to its source.
There is also a dramatic sculpture close to the car park named ‘The Spirit of Scotland’ which commemorates the life and deeds of Scotland’s greatest patriot and martyr, Sir William Wallace ......... 'Braveheart'.
In 1297, Wallace had been made aware that an English baggage train carrying stolen treasures from Scottish abbeys, kirks and castles would be passing below Loudoun Hill enroute for Lanark. The baggage train was escorted by two hundred English soldiers, both foot and mounted, and led by none other than the knight Sir John Fenwick, who six years earlier, had murdered Wallace’s father, Sir Malcolm Wallace. With his small group of around fifty followers, Wallace, successfully ambushed the English and in a hand to hand fight avenged his father's death by killing Fenwick. The rest of the English escort was routed and the stolen property recovered.
To see some stunning views of the region do make the short scramble to the top of Loudoun Hill. The easiest route to the summit is through the trees on the northeast side.
