Geocache Description:

A hearty hike along the Camp Smith Trail

This is a relatively challenging hike on Camp Smith Trail in the Hudson Highlands overlooking the Hudson River with spectacular views along the way. Careful in the winter - parts can be dangerous if there's ice on the ground unless you have crampons or other specialized equipment. Please stay on the blue-marked trail until you are close to the cache. You can park at the historic toll house or go on past to the bend in the road and walk back.

This cache is located around 50 or so feet off the trail. If you find yourself plummitting off the side of a cliff, you've probably gone too far. The cache is a small plastic container with a pen and log book plus some goodies for trade, plus a special gift for the first to find (FTF). (Yes, it's real.) Please leave this cache hidden as you found it.

The Camp Smith Trail is a public hiking trail in the town of Cortlandt, NY. It is named for the NY National Guard Camp that it borders. In 1995 the National Guard camp gave the NY/NJ Trail Conference this land for the express purpose of developing a hiking trail on it. Both geocaches are on the public trail land. Geocachers do not need to go on the restricted military land to retrieve them. Here is some information about the trail: http://www.nynjtc.org/hike/camp-smith-trail
