[LAT] Madonas pirmais sporta laukums iekārtots divdesmito gadu vidū Dārza ielas labajā pusē tūlīt aiz dzelzceļa, tātad starp sliedēm un tagadējo "Kuršu" būvmateriālu veikalu. Vieta izvēlēta pēc nākamās pilsētas plāna izstrādātāja Arnolda Maidela ierosinājuma, salīdzinoši netālu Rīgas ielas sākumā tolaik pamatskola un vidusskola. Iekārtots vienkārši – pamatā futbola laukums, tam gar malu skrejceļš, galā volejbola laukums un arī lekšanu bedres. Samērā drīz gan atzina, ka vieta ne īsti pareiza izvēlēta – tā zema, tur veidojas bieži migla, tuvējās ādu ģērētavas dēļ pulcējas putni.
Trīsdesmito gadu beigās bija iecere veidot sporta laukumu ieplakā Parka kalna pakājē starp Dārza ielas sākumu un Biržu ielu – Pumpura ielas vietā.
1945.g. 13.decembrī izvēlēta vieta stadionam piepilsētas mežā, tā sauktajās Prīlapa priedēs, kur iepriekš notika zaļumballes, brīvdabas izrādes. 1946. gada februārī no "Ančaugu" zemes tam atdalīti 5 ha platība, vēlāk piedalīts arī kāds hektārs no tā brīža zvērsaimniecības zemes, 1946.g. 19.decembrī apstiprināts stadiona projekts. 1948.g. 26.maijā pirmā talka Madonas apriņķa sporta stadionā. Laukumā izgāztas 400 priedes. Pirmajā desmitgadē stadionā rīkoti arī dziesmu svētki, politisko svētku mītiņi un citi pasākumi, jo estrādi atklāja 1960.gadā.
