Skir Hill Trail 22 Traditional Geocache

The Skir Hill Trail consists of 31 caches, including 3 bonus caches, placed on Dartmoor's South Moor. The trail starts at either Saddle Bridge or Combestone and can be completed in either a clockwise or anti-clockwise direction and is approximately 5.6 miles (9km) in length. The trail extends into the South Moor as far as Skir Hill and includes sections along the O Brook, The Henroost, Skir Gut, Sandy Way and Holne Moor.

Some will no doubt say "A good walk ruined!" others "Yipee, another 31 caches to add to our numbers!" Whatever your view, this is a significant trek into Dartmoor's South Moor which will probably take the best part of a full day and in MORE difficult terrain than Dart'moor Double Dozen. The majority of the caches are fairly easy to find, but some are more difficult, especially those near the O Brook. There are no spoilers and the only hints will be those to protect the environment. Various terrains will be encountered from very well marked mining tracks, to well used footpaths, to animal tracks and in some cases, maybe no track at all !

This trail can either be completed in a clockwise direction (ascending odd numbers) or in an anti-clockwise direction (ascending even numbers). In both directions the same bonus information will be found for the Outward Bonus cache. There is also an Inward Bonus cache and a Final Bonus Cache.

Skir Hill is a fairly remote spot on Dartmoor and at its furthest point this trail is over 1.5 miles from the nearest road. The weather on Dartmoor can change suddenly and unexpectedly and ALL types of weather conditions can be experienced. Please ensure that you have the correct clothing and map & compass (and know how to use them). Please do NOT rely solely on your GPS.
