O Escutismo Marítimo é um ramo do Corpo Nacional de Escutas – Escutismo Católico Português, que tem por objetivo a educação integral de crianças e jovens, privilegiando: o contato com a natureza, a vida em pequenos grupos, o “aprender fazendo”, o jogo social espontâneo,…, através de, mas não só, atividades náuticas (vela, canoagem, mergulho,…).
O Agrupamento 1197 – Escutismo Marítimo, tem por patrono Jacques-Yves Cousteau e foi fundado a 20 de maio de 2001, na paróquia de S. José (Ponta Delgada).
Fazem parte deste Agrupamento cerca de 70/80 escuteiros. Este Agrupamento tem ao seu dispor diversas embarcações, nomeadamente: cayaques, canoas, embarcações de vela ligeira (Otimist, “420” e raquero), de vela de cruzeiro (iate cabinado, de 16 pés, para 10 tripulantes da Classe Sweden 56) e semirrígido. Estas embarcações encontram-se parqueadas na sua Base Náutica (localizada no Clube Naval de Ponta Delgada), na Marina das Portas do Mar e na sua Sede (na paróquia de S. José).
Baden-Powell
(BP - fundador do Escutismo)
Robert Stephenson Smyth Baden-Powell ComC (Londres, 22 de Fevereiro de 1857 —Nairobi, 8 de Janeiro de 1941) foi um tenente-general do Exército Britânico, fundador do escotismo ou escutismo. Seu pai morreu quando Robert Baden-Powell tinha apenas 3 anos, deixando a sua mãe com sete filhos, dos quais o mais velho tinha 12 anos e o mais novo apenas 1 mês de vida. Robert viveu uma bela vida ao ar livre com seus quatro irmãos, excursionando e acampando com eles em muitos lugares da Inglaterra. Aos 19 anos, Baden-Powell terminou os estudos na Escola Charterhouse e aceitou imediatamente uma oportunidade de ir à Índia como subtenente do regimento que formara a ala direita da cavalaria na célebre "Carga da Cavalaria Ligeira" da Guerra da Crimeia. Em 1887, B-P participou da campanha contra os Zulus na África. No final da campanha militar em África, BP foi promovido ao posto de major-general, tornando-se um herói aos olhos de seus compatriotas. Foi como um herói dos adultos e das crianças que em 1901 ele regressou da África do Sul para a Inglaterra e descobriu, surpreso, que a sua popularidade pessoal dera popularidade ao livro que escrevera para militares: Aids to Scouting (Ajudas à Exploração Militar). O livro estava sendo usado como um compêndio nas escolas masculinas. BP viu nisto um desafio. Compreendeu que estava aí a oportunidade de ajudar a juventude. Nos primeiros meses de 1908, lançou em seis fascículos quinzenais o seu manual de adestramento, o "Escotismo para Rapazes" sem sequer sonhar que este livro iria por em acção um movimento que afectaria a juventude do mundo inteiro.
Mal tinha começado a aparecer nas livrarias e nas bancas de jornais e já surgiram patrulhas e tropas de escuteiros não apenas na Inglaterra, mas em muitos outros países. O movimento cresceu tanto que em 1910, BP compreendeu que o Escotismo seria a obra a que dedicaria a sua vida. Teve a visão e a fé de reconhecer que podia fazer mais pelo seu país adestrando a nova geração para a boa cidadania do que preparando meia-dúzia de homens para uma possível futura guerra. Pediu então demissão do Exército, onde havia chegado a tenente-general, e ingressou na sua "segunda vida", como costumava chamá-la, sua vida de serviço ao mundo por meio do Escotismo.
Em 1912, fez uma viagem à volta do mundo para contactar os escuteiros de muitos outros países. Foi este o primeiro passo para fazer do Escotismo uma fraternidade mundial. A Primeira Guerra Mundial momentaneamente interrompeu este trabalho, a 27 de Junho de 1919 foi feito Comendador da Ordem Militar de Cristo , mas com o fim das hostilidades foi recomeçado, e em 1920 escoteiros de todas as partes do mundo reuniram-se em Londres para a primeira concentração internacional de escoteiros: o Primeiro Jamboree Mundial. Na última noite deste Jamboree, a 6 de Agosto, B-P foi proclamado "Escuteiro-Chefe-Mundial" sob os aplausos da multidão de rapazes.
O Movimento Escoteiro continuou a crescer. No dia em que atingiu a "maioridade" completando 21 anos contava com mais de 2 milhões de membros em praticamente todos os países do mundo. Nesta ocasião, B-P recebeu do rei Jorge V a honra de ser elevado a barão, sob o nome de Lord Baden-Powell of Gilwell. Mas apesar deste título, para todos os escuteiros ele continuou e continuará sempre sendo BP, o Escoteiro-Chefe-Mundial.
IGREJA DE S. JOSÉ
A primitiva Igreja de S. José, no local, sob a invocação de Nossa Senhora da Conceição, remonta ao século XVIe pertencia ao Mosteiro da Ordem de São Francisco. O atual templo foi iniciado em 1709. Encontra-se classificada como Imóvel de Interesse Públicopelo Decreto nº 39.175, de 17 de Abrilde 1953. O templo, de grandes dimensões, apresenta uma fachada simples mas imponente, dominada pela portada. O interior consiste de três naves com arcos pintados, com os altares decorados em talha dourada. Destacam-se ainda os painéis de azulejosdatados do século XVIII(azuis e brancos). Encontra-se decorado com estátuas dos séculos XVII e XVIII, de influência hispano-mexicana. Na sacristiadestaca-se o mobiliário barroco em jacarandá. Ao lado direito da Igreja encontra-se a Capela de Nossa Senhora das Dores, cujas janelassão consideradas um dos mais representativos exemplos do estilo barroco de São Miguel.

Cache commemorating 90 years of CNE
The seascouts are a branch of “Corpo Nacional de Escutas - Escutismo Católico Português”, who aims at the integral education of children and young people, focusing on: the contact with nature, living in small groups, the "learning by doing", the spontaneous social game, ... through, but not limited to, water sports (sailing, canoeing, diving, ...).
Group 1197 - Sea Scouting, is patroned by Jacques-Yves Cousteau and was founded on May 20, 2001, in the parish of S. José (Ponta Delgada).
In this group we have about 70/80 seacouts. This group has at its disposal several boats, including: cayaques, canoes, boats dinghy sailing (Otimist, "420" and raquero) sailing cruise (yacht of 16 feet to 10 crewmembers of Sweden Class 56) and semi-rigid. These boats are parked in our Nautical Base (located at the Naval Club Ponta Delgada) in Marina das Portas do Mar and its Headquarters (in the parish of St. Joseph).
Baden-Powell
(BP - Founder of Scouting)
Robert Stephenson Smyth Baden - Powell COMC (London , February 22, 1857 , Nairobi , January 8, 1941 ) was a Lieutenant General in the British Army , the founder of Scouting. His father died when Robert Baden - Powell had only 3 years old , leaving his mother with seven children , of whom the eldest was 12 and the youngest only 1 month old. Robert lived a beautiful outdoor life with her four brothers , hiking and camping with them in many parts of England . At 19, Baden - Powell finished his studies at Charterhouse School and immediately accepted an opportunity to go to India as a lieutenant in the regiment that formed the right wing of cavalry in the famous " Charge of the Light Brigade " of the Crimean War . In 1887 , BP participated in the campaign against the Zulus in Africa . At the end of the military campaign in Africa , BP was promoted to the rank of major general , becoming a hero in the eyes of his countrymen . It was like a hero of adults and children in 1901 he returned from South Africa to England and discovered with surprise that his personal popularity gave popularity to the book written for military : Aids to Scouting ( Military Aid to Exploration ) . The book was being used as a textbook in male schools. BP saw this as a challenge. He realized that there was the opportunity to help the youth. In early 1908, launched in six fortnightly his training manual , the " Scouting for Boys " without even dreaming that this book would put into action a move that would affect the youth of the world .
Had barely begun to appear in bookstores and on newsstands and has emerged patrols and scout troops not only in England but in many other countries . The movement grew so much that in 1910 , BP realized that he would dedicate is life to scouting. He had the vision and faith to recognize that he could do more for his country teaching the new generation good citizenship than preparing a half - dozen men for a possible future war . Then he requested dismissal of the army , which he had come a lieutenant general from , and joined his " second life " , as he called it , his life of service to the world through Scouting .
In 1912 , he made a trip around the world to contact scouts from many other countries . This was the first step to make Scouting a worldwide fraternit . World War I briefly interrupted this work, June 27, 1919 was made Commander of the Military Order of Christ , but when the end of hostilities was resumed , in 1920, Scouts from all over the world gathered in London for the first concentration international scout : the First World Jamboree . On the last night of the Jamboree , August 6 , BP was proclaimed " Chief Scout of the World , " to the applause of the crowd of boys .
The Scout Movement continued to grow . On the day they hit the " age" completing 21 years had more than 2 million members in almost every country in the world. On this occasion , BP received from King George V the honor of being elevated to Baron , under the name of Lord Baden - Powell of Gilwell . But despite this title , for all the scouts he continued and will always continue being BP , Chief Scout of the World .
CHURCH OF S. JOSÉ
The primitive Church of St. Joseph, on the spot, under the invocation of Our Lady of Conception, dating back to the 16th century and belonged to the Monastery of the Order of St. Francis. The current temple was started in 1709. It is classified as a building of Public Interest by Decree no. 39,175 , april 17, 1953. The temple, of large dimensions, presents a simple but imposing facade, dominated by gates. The interior consists of three sections with painted arches, with the altars decorated with gilded wood. Highlights are the panels of tiles dating from the 18th century (blue and white). It is decorated with statues of the 17th and 18th centuries, hispano-Mexican influence. In the sacristy stands out the baroque furniture in jacaranda. The right side of the Church is the Chapel of Our Lady of Sorrows, whose windows are considered one of the most representative examples of the baroque style of Sao Miguel.
