Geocache Description:

Having crossed this bridge many times over many years, I realised that there was no cache in the North Ludo Valley. So here it is: dedicated to the bridge, the Caminho Arabe which crosses it and the Ribeiro de Sao Lourenco which (occasionally) flows under it.

The Moors occupied this area of Portugal for centuries so the name Arabe tied to a road or bridge is not strange. However, I've tried for many years to find out why this specific road and bridge was given the name - but it remains a mystery. If a fellow Geocacher knows - please contact me and I will update the Description.

The bridge today has no architectural merit, having been re-structured many times, presumably for safety reasons. The floor of the bridge, however, is wonderful, formed of cobblestones made shiny by decades, perhaps centuries, of wear.

Parking is easy but please take care if walking on the bridge. It is uneven and only just wide enough for one car.

The cache is a micro with only a log enclosed so please bring something to write with. And please replace it as you find it so that it is not visible from the road. It is unlikely that you will find Muggles on foot but there are passing cyclists and the bridge is used during rush-hours as a way of by-passing Almancil when heading East from the Quinta do Lago area.
