Dia 25 - Melhorar o conhecimento
 O Rangoon, um dos paquetes que a Companhia peninsular e oriental emprega no serviço dos mares da China e do Japão, era um vapor de ferro, de hélice, deslocando mil setecentas e setenta toneladas, e com força nominal de quatrocentos cavalos. A travessia até Hong Kong é de três mil e quinhentas milhas, ou seja de onze a doze dias.
Durante os primeiros dias da travessia Mrs. Aouda travou conhecimento mais amplo com Phileas Fogg e sempre lhe testemunhava a sua mais profunda gratidão. O fleumático gentleman escutava-a, aparentemente, com a mais extrema frieza, sem que uma entoação, um gesto revelasse nele a mais leve emoção. Velava para que não faltasse nada à jovem. Mrs. Aouda não sabia o que pensar desta frieza, mas Passepartout explicou-lhe um pouco a excêntrica personalidade do patrão e que compromisso arrastava o gentleman ao redor do mundo. Mrs. Aouda havia sorrido; mas afinal devia-lhe a vida, e o seu salvador nada podia perder pelo fato de ela o ver através do seu reconhecimento.
Mrs. Aouda contava encontrar em Hong Kong um familiar, ao que Mr. Fogg respondia que ela não tinha por que se inquietar, e que tudo se arranjaria.
A primeira parte da travessia do Rangoon foi concluída em condições excelentes. O tempo estava favorável. Toda a porção da imensa baía que os marinheiros chamam de os “braços de Bengala” mostrou-se favorável à marcha do paquete. O Rangoon logo avistou a Grande Andaman, a mais importante das ilhas da baía de Bengala, que sua pitoresca montanha de Saddle Peak, com a altura dois mil e quatrocentos pés, assinala de bem longe aos navegantes.
O desenvolvimento panorâmico destas ilhas era soberbo. Imensas florestas de palmeiras, de arecas, de bambus, de moscadeiras, de tocas, de sensitivas gigantescas, de brotos arborescentes, cobriam a região em primeiro plano, e ao fundo prefilava-se a elegante silhueta das montanhas. Sobre a costa pululavam aos milhares essas preciosas salanganas, cujos ninhos comestíveis constituem um manjar muito procurado no Celeste Império. Mas todo este espetáculo variado, oferecido à vista pelo grupo das Andaman, passou depressa, e o Rangoon encaminhou-se rapidamente para o estreito de Malaca, que lhe devia dar acesso aos mares da China.
Day 25 - Getting acquaintance
 The Rangoon, one of the steamers that Peninsular and Oriental Company employs in the service of the seas of China and Japan, was a steamer made of iron, helix moved, displacing one thousand seven hundred seventy tons, and with nominal strength of four hundred horses. The crossing to Hong Kong is three thousand and five hundred miles, or eleven to twelve days .
During the first days of the journey Aouda became broader acquainted with Phileas Fogg and always gave him her deepest gratitude. The phlegmatic gentleman listened to her, apparently with the utmost coolness, without intonation or a gesture revealling the slightest emotion. Was taking care that nothing misses to the girl. Aouda did not know what to think of this coldness, but Passepartout explained her a little of the eccentric personality of his master and the commitment that dragged the gentleman around the world. Aouda had smiled, but she owed him his life, and he nothing could lose because she saw him through their recognition.
Aouda had to find a relative in Hong Kong, to which Mr. Fogg replied that she did not have to worry, and that everything would be set.
The first part of the voyage of the Rangoon was completed in excellent condition. The weather was favorable. Every portion of the immense bay which the sailors call the "arms of Bengal" was favorable to the march of the liner. The Rangoon soon spotted the Great Andaman, the most important island of the Bay of Bengal that its picturesque Mountain Saddle Peak, with height of two thousand and four hundred feet, signals from far away to mariners.
The development of these scenic islands was superb. Immense palm forests of arecas, bamboos, moscadeiras, dens of giant sensitive, sprouts arborescent covered the area in the foreground while on the background there was the elegant silhouette of the mountains. On the coast swarmed by the thousands of these precious salanganas whose nests are a delicacy much sought in the Celestial Empire. But all this varied spectacle offered by the sight of the Andaman group passed quickly, and the Rangoon went quickly to the Strait of Malacca which should give themu access to the China seas.
