Geocache Description:

This Cache is located near the site of the Lonely Tree on Green Hall Hill near the village of Llanfyllin.

There are many footpaths that lead to the cache site not all of which are shown on the Geocaching map, check out the OS map or use the link to streetmap.co.uk below and use that to design a route.  My favourite route is to start near the Tabernacle on Fordd Y Cain and follow the stream past the ford then up Cae Boncyn lane to the top, turn left then follow the footpaths through the fields, this route is the least steep of all the options.  The path from the sewage works is the shortest and therefore the steepest.

The cache is a camoflaged film canister so no room for anything other than the log.

The Lonely Tree was a Scots pine near the top of the hill (Elevation 250m). Visible from much of the town on the skyline it was a local landmark with several traditions attached to it. The tree was blown over during a storm in February 2014, and despite efforts to save it, the tree was found to be dead in June 2015. The tree was voted Welsh Tree of the Year for 2014 and finished tenth in the European Tree of the Year awards for 2015. Seventeen saplings have been planted nearby in the hope that one will grow to replace the tree.

The town of Llanfyllin is nearby and has shops, 2 pubs, an Hotel, a restaurant and B&B opportunities.
