Dia 23 - Allahabad
 O arrojado rapto havia vingado. Sendo elogiado por todos e muito agradecido ria ao pensar que, durante alguns instantes ele, Passepartout, antigo ginasta, ex-sargento de bombeiros, fora o viúvo de uma mulher encantadora, um velho rajá embalsamado! Quanto à jovem indiana, nem tinha tido consciência do que se passara. Embrulhada nas mantas de viagem repousava sobre um dos cestos enquanto o elefante, guiado com extrema segurança pelo Parsi, corria rapidamente pela floresta. Às sete horas pararam, continuando a jovem em completa prostração.
Mas se o restabelecimento da jovem indiana não oferecia dúvida ao general de brigada, este mostrava-se menos seguro quanto ao futuro. Disse a Phileas Fogg que, se Mrs. Aouda ficasse na Índia, inevitavelmente recairia nas mãos dos seus verdugos que se encontravam por toda a península e saberiam reaver a sua vítima que só ficaria verdadeiramente em segurança depois de ter deixado a Índia. Phileas Fogg respondeu que tomaria estas observações em conta.
Pelas dez horas o guia anunciou a estação de Alaabad. Ali continuava a via interrompida da estrada de ferro demorando então menos de um dia e uma noite para chegar a Calcutá. Phileas Fogg deveria portanto chegar a tempo ao paquete que só partiria no dia seguinte, 25 de outubro, ao meio dia, para Hong Kong.
Passepartout, encarregue de comprar diversos objetos para a jovem, percorreu as ruas da cidade. Alaabad, a cidade de Deus, é uma das mais veneradas da Índia por ter sido edificada na confluência de dois rios sagrados, o Ganges e o Jumna, cujas águas atraem os peregrinos de toda a península. Segundo as lendas do Ramayana o Ganges tem a sua nascente no céu de onde, graças a Brama, desce para a terra. Fazendo suas compras, Passepartout também viu a cidade, outrora defendida por um forte magnífico que se tornou uma prisão do Estado.

Day 23 - Allahabad
 The plan had sucess despite the hazard. Being praised and very grateful by all, he laughed at the thought that, for a few moments he, Passepartout, a former gymnast, ex-sergeant fireman, had been the widower of a lovely woman, an old embalmed rajah! As for the young Indian, she had not been aware of what happened. Wrapped in blankets, travelled rested on one of the baskets as the elephant, guided by Parsi with the utmost assurance, ran quickly through the forest. At seven o'clock they stopped, and still the young woman was in complete prostration.
If the restoration of the young Indian offered no doubt to brigadier general, he showed less secure about the future. He told Phileas Fogg that if Aouda stay in India would inevitably fall into the hands of his executioners that were throughout the peninsula and they would how to regain his victim who would only be truly safe after leaving India. Phileas Fogg replied that he would take these observations into account.
At ten o'clock the guide announced Alaabad station. There continues the interrupted railroad taking then less than a day and a night to reach Calcutta. Phileas Fogg would thus arrive on time to the ship that only would leave the next day, October 25, at noon, to Hong Kong.
Passepartout, in charge of buying various objects to the young woman, walked through the streets of the city. Alaabad, the city of God, is one of the most venerated in India for having been built on the confluence of two sacred rivers, the Ganges and Jumna, the waters of which attract pilgrims from all over the peninsula. According to the legends of Ramayana the Ganges has its source in the sky where, thanks to Brahma, comes down to earth. Making his purchases, Passepartout also saw the city, once defended by a magnificent fort that became a state prison.
