The Calling River runs from Calling Lake into the Athabasca River. If you are looking for a cool little campsite and are packing in and packing out ... drive to the end of the "Calling River Water Access Road" and you will be greeted with no cell reception, lots of hidden wildlife and peaceful camping space. Don't worry your GPS will work fine. It is a bit of a drive out of the way so prepare for an hour or longer detour.
Aboriginal Junior Forest Rangers from Whitefish (Fire Lake) met with the Driftpile crew for a cultural camping experience. We sought community while exploring our traditional roots. There was fishing, willow dream catchers, bannock, fires and medicine wheel teachings. We also made note of many rabbit trails and spotted a few bears in the area. Be Bear AWARE! We had a great time here and hope you also enjoy it. (We recommend a satellite phone if you plan on staying more than 1 night.) Calling Lake and the MD Opportunity are just a short drive away so don't fret if you need some company and more geocaching. Be sure to explore the area if you want to find this cache!
