You can pass through this 32 km long route by foot, but rather recommended for cyclists. Your finding is accepted in case you write a log in the logbook at 2nd stage. Beauties of the inner part of West- Zselic will unfold for you. You won’t drive your car because you haven’t got permission from the owner of this terrirory. Maybe you will find open bars but those can be sometimes closed. The valleys are situated about in 140…170 m height above sea level and the elevation of the ridges of the hills is about 80…100 m above valleys. There are three long ascending road sections from the valleys to the ridges of the hills. You won’t find potable water spings but you can find two standard hotels/restaurants by the side of the route.
Itinerary
The starting and finishing point of this closed-loop way is at Bőszénfa Deer-farm tourist-centre. You leave the No67 highway here: N 46° 13.724' E 17° 51.014’ and you can park your car on the grassy road-bank of the asphalt-covered forest road near the tourist-centre. From this place you will ride your bike.
1st stage : N 46°13.376' E 17° 47.245' near the crossing point of „Old Post Coach Road” it leads to here from North.
Thousand years ago there were more than 100 little villages in the Zselic hilly country. In the course of the wars against Islamic invasion (XVI. – XVII. century) these villages and the Christian Hungarian population were annnihilated by Turks. The villages disappeared, the roads have been into oblivion, and for lack of agricultural production the woods occupied the hills, and the swamps occupied the valleys. Later new villages were built, but most of those were depopulated towards the middle of the 20th century because the inhabitants moved into towns. There is a legend about this diligence road between Kaposvár and Szigetvár (Old Post Coach Road – Régi postakocsi-út). This territory was best known by forest outlows. There was a captured outlow sentenced to death but he was able to shaw the shortest road in an almost straight line without steep slopes and swamps, moreover no bridges were needed between the two towns. In return this outlow get off with a whole skin from the prison. Later the new No67 highway was realized, and the „Old Post Coach Road” from Kaposvár to Szigetvár is only an unbroken forest cartroad signed by tourist signs today.
2nd stage: cache with logbook N 46° 12.631' E 17° 46.081' at Enyezd Barrack.
This barrack was the quarters of tree-cutters in the middle of XX. century, but today is a tourist-target. It is near the meadow of disappeared Enyezd village.
3rd stage: Road-forking N 46° 13.800' E 17° 44.095' You will continue your journey from Enyezd-barrack in the asphalt-covered road by the side the meadow of Enyezd, then across the meadow of Márcadó disappeared village, later you reach the road-forking at place of the one-time Vitorág village. Turn right here in the direction of Kardosfa.
4th stage: Kardosfa. Hotel Kardosfa N 46° 14.635' E1 7° 45.452' at the place of the one-time Kardosfa village. Here you turn right and make way in the asphalt-covered road towards Ropoly restaurant, pass by Ropoly-lake along the way.
5th stage: Ropoly restaurant is near this waypoint: N 46°15.293’ E 17° 47.259’ in vicinity of the one-time Ropoly village.
6th stage: The Old Post Coach Road crosses this asphalt-covered road at this point N 46° 15.591' E 17° 47.874'
7th stage: You reach the highway No67 at this point N 46° 15.557’ E 17°49.720’. You will return from here to starting\finishing point: you will be heading South.
