The Glen Isle Resort opened in 1901 in response to the construction of similar resorts along the railroad through Platte Canyon, which were experiencing great success around the turn of the century. The lodge and its surrounding cabins were popular with tourists because of the nearby fishing and idyllic setting, but Glen Isle’s early success was short lived as visitors began building private cabins and no longer patronized the resort. The removal of the railroad line in 1937 further hampered the resort’s success, but the owners persevered and Glen Isle’s rustic charm became a major selling point. The resort has been owned and operated by the same family since 1924.
