Äkäsmylly
Muoniossa, 10 km päässä Ylläkseltä, Äkäsjoen rauhallisen juoksun katkaisee heti alkuunsa monihaarainen putous, jonka kuohuja hyödyntää v. 1946 rakennettu vesimylly, Äkäsmylly. Edelleen toimintakelpoisen viljamyllyn lisäksi rakennuskantaan kuuluu paikalle siirretty riihi ja muita rakennuksia. Nämä ovat toistaiseksi Metsähallituksen omistuksessa.
Äkäsmyllyllä on toiminut kesäisin ja talvisinkin hiihtotapahtumissa myllykahvila, jota on toistakymmentä vuotta pitänyt ”Elämäntapa-Erkkinä” tunnettu Erkki Virrankoski. Kesäisin Erkki on pitänyt myllykahviota auki lähes aina, siitä onkin tullut tutuksi sanonta: ”Erkin kahvio on aina auki kuin myllyn ovi”. Nyt kuitenkin tapahtuu muutos, Metsähallitus on myymässä aluetta ja Erkki siirtämässä kahviotaan sieltä pois.
Perinteisesti jokaisella myllyllä oma omat haltiansa, niin tälläkin, Myllytonttu, jolla on pitkän ikänsä mukainen tarina.
MYLLYTONTUN TARINA:
"Myllytonttu on ikivanha kuten kaikki haltiat ja tontut ovat. Nuoruutensa se eli ja asusti kaukana etelässä huolehtien siitä, että sen kotimylly ei kuumene liikaa eikä syty palamaan, mutta vuosisatojen vieriessä etelän myllyt muuttuivat suuriksi ja meluisiksi eikä Myllytonttu enää viihtynyt siellä. Pohjoisesta palanneilta ystäviltään, muuttolinnuilta se sai tietää, että jos vaeltaa tarpeeksi kauas pohjoiseen, löytää rauhallisia jokia, koskia ja myllyjä.
Niin se lähti matkaan ja saapui suuren meren ylitse ja maita ja mantuja kulkien rauhalliseen pikkukylään, Korpilahteen, josta löysi sopivan myllyn työ- ja kotipaikakseen. Siellä se viihtyi hyvin, kunnes mylly rapistui ja ikääntyi eikä sitä enää käytetty. Korkeasta iästään huolimatta Myllytonttu ei ollut ihan valmis eläkkeelle, joten se päätti vielä kerran etsiä paikan, josta pääskyset muuttomatkoillaan kertoivat: toimivaksi entisöity Äkäsmylly Länsi-Lapin rauhallisessa maisemassa.
Melkein 70 vuotta Myllytonttu on saanut tyytyväisenä vartioida myllyään, mutta nyt se on pelästynyt. Se on kuullut Elämäntapa-Erkin turisevan monenlaista myllyllä kävijöiden kanssa kahvitulilla, viime viikkoina Erkki on tehnyt muuttoa pois, koska Erkin kertoman mukaan mylly ja sen alue myydään!
Oikeastaan Myllytonttu voisi jo hyvillä mielin siirtyäkin eläkkeelle, jäädä lepäilemään jonnekin Lapin metsien siimekseen, mutta se toi etelästä mukanaan aarteen, jota se ei enää jaksa siirtää kauas uuteen paikkaan, eikä toisaalta uskalla pitää myllyssäkään, jos se vaikkapa puretaan.
Myllytonttu etsi aarteelleen myllyn läheltä hyvän piilon, jonka se yksistään tietää.
Mutta eihän aarre ole mitään, ellei sitä voi näyttää kenellekään! Itse se ei tohdi ihmisille näyttäytyä, vaikka seuraileekin tarkkaan heidän vierailujaan myllyllä, mutta harvat ja valitut voivat saada tietoonsa aarteen koodin, joka löytyy kätkökoordinaattien osoittamasta paikasta."

Purkissa, joka on kooltaan väliltä small-regular, on Myllytontun aarteen ja lokivihon lisäksi kynä sekä pieni palkinto ensimmäiselle löytäjälle. Sinne mahtuu myös kulkijoita. Periaatteessa kätkö on myös talvilöydettävä, jos vain paljon lumen aikana selviydyt sinne.

Äkäsmylly mill was restored In 1946 and it is in working order. "Lifestyle-Erkki" alias Erkki Virrankoski has operated there a small old stylish café that has been open almost all the time during summers. Now, however, there is a change, the National Forestry Department is going to to sell the area, and Erkki is moving out his café.
According to Finnish tradition, each mill has its own elves, so does this mill have, too. This mill elf called Myllytonttu is very old with a long lifestory.
THE STORY OF MYLLYTONTTU:
"Myllytonttu is an ancient elf like all the elves and gnomes. Her youth she lived in the far south, ensuring that the domestic mills do not overheat and catch fire, but when the centuries rolled by mills in the south became large and noisy and she was no longer happy there. Her small friends, birds returning from the north told that if you wander long enough to the north you can find peaceful rivers, rapids and mills.
She left and passed the great sea, wandered over countries and came to a quiet little village, Korpilahti. There she found a cute small mill where to work and live until the mill grew too old and was no longer used. Despite her age, Myllytonttu was not quite ready to retire, so she decided once more to look for a place she had heard the migrating swallows telling of: Äkäsmylly in Western Lapland in peaceful surroungnings..
Nearly 70 years Myllytonttu guarded happily her mill, but now she is frightened. Lifestyle Erkki has told her that the mill and its area is on sale! Actually, she could be ready to retire and to find her a place to rest somewhere in the forests of Lapland, but she has brought with her a treasure from the south, which she is no longer able to move far away to a new location, and she does not dare to keep it in the mill either.
She found a good hiding place for her treasure near the mill. But treasure is worth of nothing unless it can be shown to someone! In fact, she is very shy and she hides from people, but selected, few persons may get to know the code of the treasure, and can find it in the place indicated in the coordinates."
If you are very careful so as not to disturbe Myllytonttu nor to reveal the code for the treasure to outsiders, you can go and look for it and admire it. Please make sure that you restore all things as they were when you found them, THANK YOU!
The cache size is between small to regular, the jar contains the treasure of Myllytonttu (please, do not move her treasure away!), the logbook, the pen, and a small prize to the first finder. There is also room for travellers. In principle, the cache can be found in winter, too, if only you are able to go there through the snow..
