Lielākās Salacas lejteces klintis, viens no ainaviskākajiem smilšakmens atsegumiem Latvijā. Līdz 10 m augstās un ap 400 m garās Sarkanās klintis sauktas arī par Pietragu, Pietraga klintīm, Mačperu iezi, ko veido sarkanie Burtnieku svītas smilšakmeņi, paceļas asā Salacas kreisā līkumā kā izvirzīts klinšains rags. Klinšu sienā izveidojušās vairākas nelielas, selgas alas un grotas. Salacas gultnē Sarkano klinšu apkaimē ir vairāki krāčaini un strauji posmi.

The soil layer in Latvia consists of sedimentary rocks: sand, clay, dolomite, sandstone. The relatively uniform soil of the northwest Vidzeme highlands are composed of sandstones and clays from the Burtnieku series, laid down in the mid-Devonian. They are revealed on riverbanks and on the eastern shore of Burtnieku Lake.

Pretī Sarkanajām klintīm ir izveidota tūristu apmetne ~ 350 m garumā uz upes virspalu terases un ielejas krasta lēzenajā nogāzē. Sarkanās klintis ir populārs tūrisma objekts, tādēļ šo apmetni izmanto arī šurp atbraukušie autotūristi, velotūristi un atpūtnieki. Sarkano klinšu klātbūtne pretējā krastā padara šo vietu par vienu no skaistākajām apmetnēm Salacas krastos.

The River Salaca, flowing out of Burtnieku Lake, has carved its valley not only in the loose rock of the quaternary, but also in the bedrock sandstone, creating steep embankments along its shores. One of the most magnificent Salaca crags are the Red Cliffs.
The Red Cliffs (other names — Pietrags, Mačperu cliffs) are in the district of Salacgrīva, near the iron bridge and the embankment of the former rail track on the left bank of the Salaca. It is a sandstone cliff, part of the Burtnieku series, stretching more than 400 m in length. The cliff isn’t high — a mere 10 m, but extremely picturesque, especially in the rays of the setting sun. Shallow caves and grottos can also be found in the cliff, accessible only from the river side. Facing the cliffs in Ziedoņu Bay, a resting area for tourists has been set up.
Another 3 km downstream from the Red Cliffs, on both banks of the Salaca, separate sandstone outcrops are exposed. On the right bank lies a rock pile formed by talus and the Upeskalna cliffs, a bit further — the Zvīguļu cliffs. Another 2.8 km later, the 150 m long and 4-5 m high Junču cliffs appear, then the Rostu cliffs with some small caves and outcrops.

There is 2 ways getting cache, easiest way (Waypoint [PE]), and little bit harder way (Waypoint [PH]) if harder way selected, then possible appropriate inventory needed (in summer you can swim), and afterwards you can make picnic and take a rest in nice place.
