How Geocaching Works

Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions in our disclaimer.

Geocache Description:

This is an Intercache

Put away your GPS, and get out your smartphone. This is a new style interactive geocache known as an Intercache.

Please read these details in full before you head out! This geocache requires a mobile Internet connection in order to ultimately find the physical geocache container. Part of the geocache trail is close to water (please take care with children and animals).

So what is an Intercache?

An intercache is an interactive geocache. An intercache is a new way of creating a mystery geocache, similar to a wherigo geocache.

The biggest difference is that the entire geocache is developed, edited, and played on your mobile phone's browser with no software required to download!

How do you play an Intercache?

To play an intercache, make sure you have a compatible device.

Go to http://intercaching.com/intercache/ on your smartphone/device and select the “test device” button.

You should see your current coordinates as well as the estimated accuracy. If you see something reasonable, you'll all set! If you get an error, you may need to enable the GPS and other geolocation settings on your smartphone.

If your device is compatible, follow this link on you smartphone/device to start playing "Go'n'do - Lyrup Intercache".

At each of the various stages of the intercache game play, you will be given coordinates to navigate to.

There is a compass that has a red arrow pointing you the right direction as you move.

You may have to walk a little bit before the arrow points in the right direction as the application doesn't have access to your smartphone's digital compass if it has one.

Each stage will have some information and could include an image relevant to the location, you won't have to find anything physical until you get the co-ordinates to the physical geocache.

Each stage requires you to answer an easy question relevant to the location before you move on. Make sure you keep a record of ALL your answers. All of the stages will require that you are within a given radius of that location and that you've provided the corect answer relevant to that location before you can move on.

There are seven (7) locations to visit whilst interacting with the intercache game play.

I recommend that you have paper and pen handy to write down your answer at each stage, as those answers will be needed to calculate the location of the physical geocache..

Thank you

I would like to thank Moneydork for beta testing the intercache game play.

Testing was conducted using both an Android and iPhone smartphone. Mobile service was available with my data provider (Telstra NextG), however if you are with another data provider you may encounter some problems. Sorry if this is the case.

I look forward to reading your logs about your intercaching experience.

Good Luck! As at June 2013 this was a novel new way of looking for a geocache.

Other Notes

I recommend that you do NOT leave the web browser during play.

  • At minimum, don't open a new web page.
  • You may switch apps whilst playing the intercache, but if you close the browser window, you may have to start over.
  • It's safe to let your smartphone screen timeout while walking or driving.
  • When the smartphone screen times out, your GPS *should* go off and not waste battery.
  • When you turn your smartphone screen back on, it may take a few seconds for the app to get your co-ordinates again.

I hope you enjoy this new idea for a geocache and I hope it works for you.

I had great fun developing the intercache.

The Cache

There is only room for the log book, please make sure that you have a writing implement to record your find.
