Mermaid Clamber Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

heartstones1: The copse where the tree was has largely been cut down and an industrial building has taken it's place. I think the tree may just have survived on the boundary but it would now require a climb in full view of the new building. There are also residential buildings only 40m from the cache which have been built since the cache was placed. So to avoid cachers having awkward encounters with the locals it's time to archive this.

Geocache Description:

The cache is in a tree adjacent to the signed footpath that passes near the lake.
It is about 6-7m above ground level and can be seen (attached with boot laces!) from the downed tree.
It has a reflective base to aid night cachers
The tree has a green bangle 3m up.

This striking new sculpture of a mermaid is set on a rock structure in the North Lake. The Mermaid - which is over 9 metres high with a 14 metre wide tail - marks the start of The Bridge Sculpture Trail and promises to become an icon for the local area.
The Sculpture Trail is the work of local artist William Jordan. The Trail, which will eventually comprise 12 pieces of art (12 caches?), is being made primarily from re-cycled materials. The Mermaid itself is made from a combination of different metals, around 80% of which are recycled. The rock structure on which she sits has been formed using recycled concrete and natural stone and it has been planted to provide a habitat for water voles.
According to William Jordan, The Mermaid reflects the convergence of earth and water in the surrounding area.
