Elk Mountain Summit Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

Trekker81: Went up to check on this last summer and an animal of some sort apparently got into it and destroyed the container so I had to pick it up and archive. Maybe I will replace down the road.

Geocache Description:

Elevation aprox 5725 ft.

From Pierce, ID head south about a mile outside of Pierce there is a turn off to the left for French Mountain Rd. take this road for aprox. 25 miles, it will lead you over French Mountain and eventually turn to gravel after 20 miles. Once it turns to gravel you will be next to Orogrande Creek and about 5 miles from the Cottonwood Creek trailhead this is where you will want to unload your 4 wheeler. Take trail 677 heading for Clarke Mtn. Lookout. you will eventually come to a juction with trail #5213 take this trail and head to another juction with trail # 603. Take this trail heading towards Clarke Mtn. and the cache. Following this trail you will come to the Clarke Mtn. trail juction, stay your course on 603 Don't go to the lookout. Continuing its only a few more miles to Elk Mountain Summit and the cache site on trail # 603. The trails are all marked pretty well so you should be fine there are even map signs showing the way. Many different trails lead to and juction together but this I found to be a pretty straight forward way to access the cache. The cache is a medium sized coffee container with some swag and a home made log. (if the FTF wants to bring a little log note book to replace the one I made it would be appreciated as I did not have one at the time). I posted some pics to help you on your adventure, make sure to bring a picnic and camera. Its a great ride with great views! Note: may run into snow in May, June or even July some years, I recommend if coming in May or June bring a chainsaw.
