Thanks to BIGGBYjedi for the idea behind this challenge; truly a like minded cacher and CO when it comes to logging. I would love to be able to claim his lengthy log challenge cache but sadly it's too far away for that to be likely. Instead he was happy for me to repeat the challenge over here is the UK. So here it is....
Besides the thrill of the actual finds, one of the main aspects of geocaching that I love is the interactions between hiders and seekers on the website - brilliantly conceived cache pages, funny stories of the search, praise for the clever hide, and cache owners logging finds on each others' caches. Sometimes I feel like I already know cachers when I meet them purely from their logs and the stories they share.
I definitely appreciate the cachers who have something to say in their logs - many COs work hard on their caches and I have always viewed the logs as a way that I can give back, and to say thank you for the experience, the fun, and sometimes the frustration(!) that their efforts have given to me.
So this challenge is for those among us who are a bit more comfortable at the keyboard. For the cachers who can't let a good tale go untold. For the seekers who string scintillating sentences to share the story of their search for smileys with the rest of us!
In order to log this as a find, you need to demonstrate your verbosity by posting a list of links to lengthy logs (finds or DNFs) that you have written. Here are the requirements:
1) You need to list links to no more than ten logs that collectively add up to more than 1,000 words in length.
2) Because it is collective, that could be ten 100-word logs, five 200-word logs, or one 1,000+ word magnum opus.
3) Please include the name of the cache and the length of your log (number of words) for each link.
4) Log "signatures" that include your caching name, team, equipment, number found and/or miles walked etc. do not count towards the log length.
5) Re-used or cut and paste logs (eg the same log used repeatedly, whether in full or in part part, along a series) do not qualify.
6) If your log qualifies when you exclude the portions that are covered by 4 and 5 above you may include it but please state this in your qualifying info along with the number of words when you exclude the unqualifying portion. If you are in any doubt check with me before posting.
7) You may count the log that you compose for this Challenge Cache for up to 200 of the required words, but ideally you wouldn't need too...
8) If, in checking submitted logs for this Challenge Cache, I find that a cacher is not appropriately qualified for the find, or due to bad links I cannot verify the submitted logs, I will send an email alerting the cacher of the issue before considering deleting the log.
Lots of rules! I will post an example log as a note in case the above is too confusing.
The cache itself is hidden at the listed location and you can park and grab if you wish or pick it up on your walk round the village here. Please make sure you will qualify before making the find as your qualifying logs must be dated on or before the day you sign the log!
I love reading good, interesting and fun logs, (yes even when it's not my cache or I have no hope of ever finding the cache concerned) so I'm looking forward to seeing the best everyone has to offer...have fun and happy caching!
