Geocache Description:

I wasn’t quite sure if this should be called a puzzle cache or a multi-stage, but in the end I decided it was more of a puzzle.
The cache container idea is from the movie Davinci Code based upon the book by Dan Brown. Just as in the movie, the container will require a code… and no the code is not “APPLE”. The code is made up of 4 numbers such as 0123 or 4321 and this should give you about 10,000 combinations.

The cache is actually posted at the listed coordinates; however you will need to go to a nearby location to get the “Keys” to open the cryptex.

The below pictured Church is fairly well known to anyone locally and is a very short walk from the cache location, so you shouldn’t have much trouble finding it. Waypoint data is provided and also public parking is available behind the Church.

This Church was built by settlers in the years after Montgomery was established and has become somewhat of a symbol of the heritage district of Montgomery. Being at the corner of a busy intersection, few people look closely at its construction…namely its bricks. The bricks are handmade and a small number of them have an impression made of a house key.

These “key” bricks provide the solution to the cryptex.

The following four tasks will provide you with the means to open the cryptex:

1) There are 4 pillars on the front of the Church. How many of these pillars have bricks with the key impression. Number of Pillars with key brinks is the 1st digit for the cryptex key.

2) On the front right corner of the Church, count up the courses of brick from the foundation to the key brick. The number of brick courses including the key brick is the 2nd digit of the cryptex key.

3) Now turn the corner and walk on the north side of the Church till you are under a window (window nearest the front of the Church). Find the side by side bricks that have the key impressions. Now count the courses of brick between the side by side key bricks and the window sill above, this number will be the 3rd digit of the cryptex key.

4) Now for the final digit, go back to the front of the Church, find the area between the left door and the left front corner of the Church. In the middle of the wall you should see a key brick all alone (To be sure, you can count up 17 courses from the foundation). Including this key brick, count the number of bricks in that course to the left corner. This will be 4th digit of the cryptex key.

Once you have the “Key” for the cryptex, go to the cache location and turn each numbered ring until the 4 digits are all aligned between the arrows. Now pull the two ends straight apart to access the micro container within. The cryptex container is fairly large, but the internal capacity is somewhat limited and only the log container is waterproof. Only the smallest of TBs will fit.

There is a significant amount of work that goes into making one of these cache containers, so please be wary of muggles.
