Geocache Description:

This is a small micro cache located in a spot to welcome you to Bloomington, Minnesota!

After seeing so many "Welcome to" caches around the state, I realized that my own hometown lacked one of these caches.

I am very proud of my hometown of Bloomington, and I wanted to share some facts with you that you might not be aware of.

Bloomington is probably best known for being the home of the Mall of America. But actually, Bloomington has a much longer history outside of the Mall. Bloomington was founded in 1843 when Peter and Louisa Quinn built a log cabin and began teaching the local Native Americans farming methods at the behest of the US government. Following that time, more and more settlers moved to the area and settled in the area close to the Minnesota River. On May 11, 1858, the same day that Minnesota became a state, the residents of the community officially incorporated the town of Bloomington.

Prior to 1981, Bloomington was the home of all of the professional sports teams in Minnesota. Despite that, there are many famous athletes who either have come from here or have chosen to live here. Bloomington is even home to a Nordic ski jump!

Bloomington, by its proximity to two interstates and the Twin Cities International Airport, has become a center for hospitality, having over 8,000 hotel rooms for visitors around the world.

Finally, Bloomington is home to some of the best caches and cachers in not only Minnesota, but the whole world!

I am proud to say "Welcome to Bloomington" and hope you enjoy your visit to my hometown!

Congrats to ctc128, CluelessTu!, and piker on the FTF!
