I've visited Mallaig on many occasions, mainly as the Gateway to the Islands, and was surprised to see no caches here at all, so for all cachers on their way to the Islands, or those who have just enjoyed a ride on the West Highland railway line, here's a cache to mark your visit.
Mallaig is a railway and ferry terminus and a hive of activity for commercial fishing. It has an interesting mix of shops and restaurants, a quaint harbour and good views across to Skye, Eigg and Rum. Until recently the trip by road to Mallaig was a long and winding one, but road improvements have made it more accessible. Caledonian MacBrayne ferries sail from here to Skye and other destinations and the West Highland railway is one of the most beautiful journeys in the UK, and some say the World! The line is famous for the viaduct at Glenfinnan where many Harry Potter Hogwarts Express shots were filmed. If you are lucky you can catch the steam train pulling into Mallaig.
With thanks to WAMK who has agreed to be the local maintainer.
