Geocache Description:

Following the trails of old, sad story with happy ending. It is about old castle Bajnof or Weinhof, which is now gone.

Novi lastniki so prejšnje bivališče žalosti spremenili v kraj radosti in veselja.

This tale started on real facts. Over the centuries it turned into folk tale. The story, as it is sad due to death accident of a prince, has happy ending for all people around the castle. I suggest you read it to your children and talk about old times.

Folk tale

Picturesque castle Otocec was standing at the vast island in the middle of dark Krka river. Slim firs and century old bushy beeches were waving around castle. Spurs were tinkling and horse neighing were mixing with frolic laughter. Milan princess Stella was visiting her relatives. The choicest of dolenjska nobility gathered there admiring her beauty and her wit. They all took spark horses and crossed the river with mighty raft. They break into gallop up hill and down dale in a wild chase at the foothills of green wine country toward the peak of Hmelnjik. Stella was riding next to her intended groom, the proud prince Armand, the best rider around.
And it was his horse shied from a flock of starlings unexpectedly puffed in thin air just around the corner of the forest path. They rushed off like greased lightning at the vineyards. The horse stumbled upon the vine stake lying across the way and the princes came to a bad end lying immovably under the horse. He had broken his neck. As the gathering started with happiness  the graze ended in sorrow. Instead of the wedding, the poor princess should go to the funeral.
She did not want to her sunny homeland. She fortified the manor house at the site of the accident. The princess spent her days alone in sorrow and memories, being a good angel to neighbours in her vicinity. Noble anchoress spent one year mourning when abbot Bernard of Stična abbey knocked on her door. He came to examine the extensive monastic vineyards on the Trška gora and Grčevje. Visitor expressed great debt of thanks for generosity the princess was giving to subservient farmers. After the conversation, sad princess left and bequeathed the secluded mansion to the abbots of Stična. She took a vow to the monestary.
The sorrow dwelling turned into joyfull and happy place by the new owners. The building was renovated for wine storage. The mansion got the name »Weinhof«, which stands for »wine chateau«. Old german words were tailored by people into popular name »Bajnof«.
Mighty white walls of the mansion(*) standing at the foot of the Trška gora remind us that joy and sorrow are inseparable in human life.
(*) The old building is gone. The geocache is set in its place to remember the old story.

Cache is hidden at the location whetre the castle once stood. It is by the road, which leads in to the heart of the wine region Trška gora. You may taste local wine if you are lucky to meet some local grower. Just don't be too shy.
