Whereigo Information (***LINK TO DOWNLOAD CARTRIDGE AT THE VERY BOTTOM OF THIS PAGE***)

What is a Wherigo Geocache?
Wherigo is a way of utilizing GPS technology to play games, take tours, and yes geocache. Visit Wherigo.com to learn more about this new software.

Do I need special equipment?
Yes! To find this cache the proper way and to truly experience the hunt the way it was meant to be experienced, you will need two things:

  1. The Wherigo Player
  2. The "The Great Escape" cartridge

GARMIN GPSr

The Wherigo Player comes pre installed on the Garmin Colorado & Oregon series GPSr units. If you have one of those, all you have to do is download the game cartridge below, connect up your GPSr to your computer, then copy the cartridge file into the whereigo folder on your GPSr.

ANDROID DEVICES

If you have an Android Smartphone, you will need the free App - Whereyougo . Click on the android on the right to go to the Whereyougo page.

Once you have the Player ready to go, you will need to download the cartridge for this cache. Click "Download Cartridge" to get it. I have used Oregon cartridges and Pocket PC cartridges and both seem to work. Probably best just to use Pocket PC ones.

iPHONE/iPAD

If you have an iPhone, you can use the free App - Whereigo previously called (PiGo) . Click on the Download to the right to go to the iTunes page.

I know nothing about iPhones so have no idea where you put the cartridge.

Garmin Colorado

A version of the player is available for download for use by GPS enabled Pocket PC devices. Click "Download Player" to get the PPC version.

Big hints now for playing a whereigo.

When you play a whereigo, you will be presented with a main window with Locations, What Your See, Inventory etc. You will be required to carry out some action such as go to a Location, look at something you see, do something with an item in your inventory.
If you get stuck in the game and nothing is being presented to you, PRESS THE BACK BUTTON ON YOUR DEVICE until you are back to the main window. You may now see a location or item or task that wasn't there before, check them out.

Click on the link below to go to the whereigo site to download the cartridge for this game (it is a Groundspeak site so you should be able to log into it using your Geocaching name and passord).

This cartridge has been tested using:

1. Garmin Oregon 300
2. Android phone - Samsung Galaxy S3 **NOTE** When I used my android phone, the Navigation arrow to the different locations appeared to be offset by nearly 40 degrees. The distance countdown seemed to work though as you walked towards the cache. There is an option for navigating for Compass or Map. Choosing Map seemed to work fine and is probably the better choice for the moment.

If you use a different device when doing this, please let us know.
