Geocache Description:

Parking available over the road from the church.
Nano cache in a small camo bag.

St.Peter’s Church is a joint Anglican and Methodist local ecumenical partnership.
The mid-Victorian building, built in 1855 which seats about 140 people, was constructed of Hanham Stone, in the Gothic style.
The main architect was Thomas Henry Wyatt, who was the nephew of Matthew Digby Wyatt – the designer of Temple Meads.
The church consists of a wide nave with a high-pitched roof. On the north side is the original vestry and on the south side is the choir vestry that was a later addition and includes a toilet and the boiler room. In 1973 the then Anglican Church joined with Trinity Methodist Church in Redwick as an ecumenical project – the first village in England to do so. The Methodist church was converted into the church hall, which was subsequently sold in 2012.
The church is Grade 2 listed.
It consists of a wide nave which has a very high-pitched roof supported mainly by small buttresses to the nave walls.
The chancel at one time contained the choir stalls and the sanctuary remains little changed, with its small piscine in the north wall, except for the removal of the rendering and plaster from the north and south walls.
The whole church was plastered in the manner of the remaining plaster on the east wall. The plaster was removed in 2002 after portions of it became unstable, mainly due to the ingress of rainwater through faulty guttering and dampness penetrating the walls.
The interior stonework has been heavily pointed. The original vestry is on the north side, with the choir vestry on the south side.
If anybody would like to expand to this series please do, I would just ask that you could let Sadexploration know first so he can keep track of the Church numbers and names to avoid duplication.
