Geocache Description:

I suggest that you park at this location if walking the whole series. Make your way in the direction of Corr's Corner and then Cache all the way to Whiteabbey. You could then get the train back to Mossley West!

SideTracked – Mossley West Halt

The cache is hidden at Mossley West Halt on the Bleach Green Line between Whiteabbey and Antrim.

Mossley West railway station is located in the townland of Ballyhenry in the north of Newtownabbey, County Antrim, Northern Ireland. It is a single platform station with a single line passing through. It offers Park & Ride facilities with spaces for up to 59 cars.

In 2008 the station was refurbished as part of a £17 million investment package by NI Railways to improve access for disabled passengers and provide better lighting, signage and seating.

At the end of the station, in the area of the cache placement, is an aquaduct across the line. This tributary of Threemilewater added to the catchment for the mill dam at Mossley Mill.

The cache is a 35mm film container containing only a log roll. You will need to bring your own pen or pencil. Please watch out for muggles. Gloves may be necessary due to presence of nettles. In the evening this area is not the best place to be hanging around in especially if alone. The area used to be bad for unsociable behaviour but it has vastly improved over the past decade.

There are public toilets available at Mossley Mill but these are only accessible during 'office' hours. The mill is home to Newtownabbey Borough Council. There is a museum of the mill in it's linen days on the lower ground floor. Access is free.
