Geocache Description:

This is the 82nd of a series in which a red telephone box is to be found within 20 feet of a red post box.

The cache is not at the published coordinates.

The published co-ordinates will take you to the location of this 'Fine Pair'.

These phone boxes, designed by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott in the 1920's, have become collectors’ items and an example of things quintessentially English.

For more information on the phone boxes, see the Wikipedia entry Red Telephone Box.

BT do not permit the placing of geocaches in their phone boxes as long as they own them. Some disused phone boxes are offered for adoption by local communities, and where adopted the rule on placement of caches may not apply. This particular phone box is still in use.

Unfortunately, due to proximity issues with other caches in the area, the actual cache container is some distance away in Goffs Park. There is free parking in the Goffs Road car park which is open between 09:30 and 21:30. Outside these hours, you will have to find a place on local streets where residential permits may be required. Please check the signs.

On July 18th, 2018 it was reported that the telephone number details are no longer available in the telephone box as the telephone has been removed :( So, to keep this simple as long as the actual phone box remains, we are including here details of the number that was!

Before you will be able to find and log the cache, however, you still need to obtain some information from the letter box:

The phone box telephone number was 01293 524619. These 6 digits are represented as ABCDEF in the formula below that needs to be solved.

The postbox number = RH11 GH

NB AS OF JUNE 24TH, 2017, THIS CACHE HAS BEEN RELOCATED A LITTLE WAY AWAY FROM ITS ORIGINAL PLACEMENT AND THE CO-ORDINATES, FORMULA AND HINT HAVE BEEN UPDATED. IT SHOULD BE MUCH EASIER TO FIND BUT IT IS ALSO POTENTIALLY MORE EXPOSED TO MUGGLE VIEW. PLEASE TRY TO BE DISCRETE WHEN SEARCHING.

The cache can now be found at N 51° 06.D(H-E)(A-B) W 000° 11.FAC

Goff Park is lovely and well managed, with play areas for children, a miniature railway, nice pond, lots of paths and a pitch ad putt course. There are also a number of other caches in the immediate vicinity - inside and outside the park. As this is not quite a cache and dash, you might want to think about seeking some others if you have not already found them.

If anybody would like to extend 'A Fine Pair' series you are welcome to do so but first please contact the series co-ordinator, via his profile mattd2k, and request a Pair number as he keeps track of the numbers and names of these caches to avoid duplication.
