Pils parks ir Cēsu krāšņākais parks un iecienītākā atpūtas vieta. Tā aizsākums meklējams 1812. gadā, kad Riekstu kalna un ordeņa pilsdrupu teriorijā sāka veidot parku. Parks piederēja grāfam K.Zīversam, kas to labiekārtoja līdz ar kūriestādes atvēršanu 1841. gadā. Tas bija domāts slimnieku atpūtai un pastaigām. Bijušās purveinās zemienes vietā ierīkoja romantiskā stilā veidotu ainavu parku, kura vidū atradās mākslīgs dīķis ar salu. Pilsmuižas parks 19. gs. beigās bija raksturīgs ar blīvām stādījumu grupām, krāšņi ziedošiemkrūmiem, puķēm, atpūtas soliņiem, lapenēm, tiltiņiem un paviljoniem.
Savā attīstības gaitā parks vairākas reizes pārbūvēts un uzlabots. 20. gs. 30. gados šeit notika ievērojami pārbūves darbi - parka kāpņu lejas daļa pārbūvēta 1936. gadā pēc mākslinieka J.Rozenberga meta un to rotā 6 kāpņu malās novietotas bērnu skulptūras (tēlnieks R.Āboliņš). Arī parka dīķa ainavu papildināja ar kāpnēm, kas sniedzas līdz ūdenslīmenim, un skulptūrām - zvejniekiem, kas velk tīklus (tēlnieks R.Āboliņš).
Pēc 2. pasaules kara parku pārdēvēja par Oktobra parku un rekonstruēja. Parks atrodas 22 m zemāk par Jaunās pils laukumu, tādēļ no laukuma puses apmeklētājus parkā ieved varenas šūnakmens kāpnes, kuras šādu izskatu ieguva 1960. gadā (pēc arhitekta J.Laķa projekta).
Parka dominante noteikti ir dīķis, kurš izveidots apkārtnes reljefa zemākajā vietā. Tā forma ir kompakta un ūdens virsma aizņem apmēram 1,2 ha (parka kopējā platība 6,8 ha). Dīķa centrā, kur jau agrāk bija strūklaka, 1961. gadā tika uzstādīta tēlnieka Andreja Jansona veidota skulptūra - strūklaka 'Zvejnieks ar samu.
Pēdējo gadu laikā Pils parks aktīvi ticis labiekārtots un uzlabots - atjaunotas parka kāpnes, nostiprinātas un ainaviski pilnveidotas Riekstu kalns, veikti bruģēšanas darbi.

Cesis Castle Manor owner count Carl Gustav von Zievers established Castle Park and it is deservedly considered one of the most outstanding and most original landscape parks of 19th century in Latvia.
Castle Park is built around the 1832; the landscape includes the medieval castle ruins and the impressive ancient Riekstu castle- hill silhouette. Streams and springs, hilly terrain with sandstone outcrops are all adding to the Romanticism inherent bridges and pavilions.
Castle Park creators once gave a specific place names for castle park objects. Carl Hill near the pond in the honor of the castle park creator Count Carl Gustav von Zievers. In 1908th his son Emanuel Zievers placed bronze bust podium of Count Carl Gustaf von Zievers (currently under reconstruction). Castle Park also has Minadora Hill, Charlotte Island, and Emmanuel terrace. They are all Count Carl Gustaf von Zievers closest family member names.
To the present day Castle Park has preserved its original solution. In 1936th stairs were built as a passage to the pond (J. Rosenberg’s project). They are complemented by sculptor’s R. Aboltins travertine sculptures - figures of children at the stair edges, crawfish - a fountain with a stream cascade, images of fishermen near the water.In 1960-ies, open-air bandstand and audience area was built and on the lower part of the park - travertine staircase. Also, in 1960-ies existing stone stacking in shape of pyramid fountain was replaced by sculptor Andrew Janson’s sculpture "Man with a catfish."
Castle Park is a favorite resting place for Cesis citizens and guests; it is recognizable by its unique and romantic landscape, opera performances, art and diverse cultural events.
