Geocache Description:

Steeperton Tor is located on northern Dartmoor near Okehampton, and is a forboding and steep tor from whichever angle you try to climb it from.

It used to be a manned tor during the annual Ten Tors event for South West youngsters, but was removed in the last few years after a review due to Steeperton Gorge being an important bird nesting area.

There are several significant stacks forming the tor here, including a range flagpole and lookout hut. It is has been measured as over 530m in height, so has extensive views of the surrounding areas.

The cache is a container with a 35mm film canister containing the log.

The nearest parking is to be found is near OP22 on the military road onto the moor before access is restricted, and there are decent military tracks to bottom of the tor.

Please Note: This is a Military Training Area on which live firing and other pyrotechnics may be used. The area is generally open public access. One of the safety rules for public access is:- Do not, (and ensure that children do not) approach, touch or pick up any metal objects lying on the ground. Please obey all byelaws and locally posted information concerning times when the area may be closed. These may be physical barriers, flags or lights.
