According to tradition, there was a large farm known as Laufskálar on about this site.
The farm was destroyed in the year 894 in the first recorded eruption of the vulcano Katla. The lava mount, which is known as Laufskálavarða, was named after the farm.
Everyone passing by it for the first time is supposed to add a stone to bring him good luck on his journey.
So, please dear geocachers, put a stone to the others and have a good and safe journey and great times caching in Iceland.
