Short uphill section from suggested parking spot to reach cache location, rocky path to start with leading up to a wide tree-lined track that can easily get muddy, before another very brief climb to near the cache location.
Parking for only about 4-5 cars close to nearby set of cottages at top of dead end road, can be relatively tight turning space.
Fifth in an ongoing series to bring out the hidden away or forgotten about nooks and crannies in and around Ivybridge.
This old stone quarry nestles hidden away on the slopes of the Western Beacon – disused, overgrown and quite boggy in places. The skeletal walls of various buildings is all that remains in front of the moss and plant covered rock face, hinting at the small scale industry that took place here but which has long since ground to a halt.
At the entrance to the quarry, there is a small building up off to your left where the stone steps are barely visible under the mud and mulch. Once up upon the embankment, take a look around this derelict shell – no need to go inside though for the find.
Cache is a small plastic box, containing a small note pad for entries and a live TB for FTF.
