StealthRT: WWFM came to Kansas City in a big way. It was big because we secured a big lawn with a big building in the background. It was big because the cachers in this community are outstanding and do an amazing job at having fun. And it was big because OrigamiFolder did an excellent job with so many things resting on his shoulders. Many thanks to the cachers of the Kansas City Region and to OrigamiFolder for his amazing contributions to this event. I hope everyone had a really good time at WWFM X.

Geocache Description:

Join us and geocachers from around the world for the coordinated World Wide Flash Mob X (WWFM X) in Kansas City. It is the big X, so let’s go all out.

This year’s mob has a Star Wars theme and will involve a mock light-saber battle on the grounds of the Neslon-Atkins Art Museum. While the light-sabers we will be using are extremely flexible and soft, we ask that while “battling” you make every effort to strike sabers only, and do not actually strike each other, especially about the face. If you are facing off against a family member or friend who has agreed to engage more aggressively, please be sure you have significant radius between yourselves and other participants. We want everyone to have fun with this flash mob, but do not want to see anyone accidentally hurt or lose a pair of glasses. Or a limb. Yes, it is a known fact that limbs have been lost during light-saber battles. So, please be courteous to the others participating in the mob.

We would also love to see as many Geo-Jedi as possible dressed to look the part. Subtle adornments are appreciated, but you may get as elaborate as you like. For the Geo-Jedi judged best dressed, a very nice prize will be awarded at the end of the battle. This is your opportunity. You have been wanting that full sized Star Wars costume all these years. Now, you can order it and tell your spouse you are just trying to be an active member of the Geocaching community. Blame it on Stealth and Origami. Now is the time to get that Chewbacca gear you have been salivating for.

Background To The Event

The conflict between the Empire and the Alliance has made a land far, far away much closer. So close, in fact, that it has landed right here in Kansas City.

On the grounds of the Nelson-Atkins Museum lives a tree unlike any tree in the known universe. The tree exhibits incredibly unique properties . It is believed that the tree itself contains the highest concentration of midi-chlorians in the universe. There is no way to test for midi-chlorian count within a tree at this time, but Jedi can attest to the amazing flow of the force they experience when near this tree, which has been dubbed for now as, The Midi-Tree.

Needless to say, the Jedi have been able to use this increase of flow in the force to see across not only space but time with more clarity than ever before. Recently, several Jedi have become so proficient that they have been able to create incidents of force phenomena across hyper-space, essentially doing battle against Republic forces without being present.

Initially the Republic was flummoxed as to the source of the new “weapons” that seemed to be able to attack with impunity and invisibility. The Republic took heavy losses. However, intelligence finally made its way back to the Republic regarding the Midi-Tree. Since then the Republic has made its highest priority finding the Midi-Tree.

After an extensive search the Republic has found the tree. And now, the Republic is ready to make an assault and take the Midi-tree from the Alliance. Not only to prevent the Alliance from gaining advantage, but to turn the entire conflict to the favor of the Republic and crush the Alliance once and for all.

Event Coordination

At the appointed coordinates the battle for the future of the Alliance will take place at high noon.

To participate in the battle, and to maintain our permission to use the grounds of the Nelson-Atkins Art Museum for the event, we need everyone to utilize approved geo-sabers. We are asking for a donation of $3 for each geo-saber. A limited number of geo-sabers with an additional more shiny souvenir will be available for $5. Please bring correct change. We ask that you post will-attend notes as early as possible so we are able to acquire enough armaments for the battle.

We request everyone who is able to preregister and receive their geo-sabers to do so at one of the area pre-registration events or at the KC MASTER EVENT at 9 AM the morning of WWFM X. If you have not preregistered, please be at the registration coordinates to obtain your geo-sabers and orders at 11:30. You will want to arrive early as parking on Saturday can place you some distance from the registration point. The museum does offer a convenient pay-for-parking garage option if you prefer this to parking on the street. The entrance to the garage is located on the West side of the museum off of Oak Street. However, be advised that this garage can sometimes fill completely.

When you post your will-attend note please post the number in your party so we have enough sabers on hand for everyone. If some in your party are children, please note how many adult sabers and children (12 and under) sabers you will need.
