Eckerö Kyrka
Kyrkan är byggd i slutet på 1200-talet och består av åländsk röd granit. Det ovanligt breda tornet byggdes till senare 1467. Platsen kring kyrkan vittnar om aktivitet ända från järnåldern. Funna mynt, gravläggningar samt kyrkans lillklocka indikerar att en äldre kyrka funnits på platsen, sannolikt byggd i trä. En bit norrut passerar den gamla postvägen mellan Sverige och fasta Finland. Vägen till cachen leder till den gamla hamnen där Eckerös bönder kunde ta i land när det var dags för gudstjänst.
Eckerö kyrka är tillägnad martyrhelgonet St Laurenzius (St Lars).
Denna cache inte tänkt att vara svår, men den är tänkt att visa dig till en plats som väl värd att se!

Fakta om Eckerö
Eckerö är Finlands västligaste bebodda kommun i det svenskspråkiga och självstyrda Åland. I Eckerö finner man en urgammal svensk kulturbygd. Platsen rymmer såväl minnen från vikingafärder och tidiga bosättningar som från den medeltida riksvägen mellan Stockholm och Åbo, liksom postforslingen över Ålands hav. Här stod slutstriden om Åland 1809, då Finland intogs av ryssland, och här låg i över ett sekel den ryske tsarens utpost och gränspostering i väster. Eckerö är idag främst förknippat med turism.

The Church of Eckerö
The church was built in the end of the 13th century and consists of the red local rock. The broad tower was build later in 1467. The area around the church testifies of activities from the iron age. Coins and burials found in the nearby area and the the small church bell indicates that an older church existed on this site, probably built of wood. A short distance north of church you will find the old mail route between Sweden and Finland. The road passing the cache, leads to the old harbour where the farmers around Eckerö could have their boats during their time in church.
The church is dedicated to the martyr saint St Laurenzius (St Lars).
This cache is not supposed to be difficult, but it will take you to a place well worth seeing!

Facts about Eckerö
Eckerö is Finland's most westerly inhabited municipality in the swedishspeaking and autonomous Åland. In Eckerö you will find an ancient Swedish cultural tradition. Here you can find memories of both Viking voyages and early settlements as of the medieval mainroad between Stockholm and Turku, as well as the mail transfer between Sweden and Åland. Here was the final battle of Åland 1809, when Finland became occupied by Russia and here was the most westerly outpost of Russia for over a century. Eckerö is today mainly associated with tourism
