This cache has been placed by the NPS with permission from Deputy Superintendent, Carol Kohan

For 100 years, the National Park Service has preserved America’s special places “for the enjoyment, education, and inspiration of this and future generations.” Celebrate its second century with the Find Your Park GeoTour that launched April 2016 and explore these geocaches placed for you by National Park Service Rangers and their partners.

Park Information
 History:
As a boy, at his own request, FDR was taught to shoot and collect birds by his father, James Roosevelt.  In the 1890’s, it was considered scientific to kill animals, stuff them, and study them. Some of the specimens in his collection include:  White Breasted Nuthatch, Chipping Sparrow, Blue–gray Gnatcatcher, Downy Woodpecker, Baltimore Oriole, Brown-headed Cowbird, American Goldfinch, Scarlet Tanager, Red-eyed Vireo, and Eastern Wood-pewee.  These species can be sighted on the property today.  We invite you to visit the FDR Home on tour to see his bird collection. Tours of the home are offered daily from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
