Park Information
History:
Franklin Roosevelt had one job title that most people were unaware of.  It was that of tree farmer.  Between the years of 1911 and 1945, FDR planted some 500,000 trees on his property.  One quarter of the 1,600 acres that FDR would own would be his tree plantations.  He saw the land as a resource, something to be used and managed in a way that was responsible.  He treated his wood lots as a crop, not a landscaped feature.  Today many trees still exist on the property, some of which are close to where you stand.    A large number of trees were planted to become Christmas trees.

Did you know that on one occasion a tree was flown by U.S. Army bomber to Winston Churchill so that he could have a Hyde Park Christmas tree?
