The first in a series set out around this lovely English parish. The walk is just over 3 miles and passes through fields and lanes. It is suitable for families although there are several stiles - buggies probably not suitable. Parking in the street near the church (see waypoint). Follow the footpath between the horse paddocks from the kissing gate (see waypoint) opposite the school.
There was a Water Mill here in the 19th century, and remains of the mill race can be seen. In 1861, the corn miller who lived here was Joseph Cooch. You are now crossing the Roxwell Brook, which is a tributary to the River Can, one of the main three rivers that has its confluence in Chelmsford. The mill house is now a private residence.
STEALTH REQUIRED HERE -the house overlooks the bridge so some covert shoe-lace tying required.
After replacing this cache, cross the footbridge, climb the stile over the fence into the pony paddocks (they should ignore you so don't be worried, just keep the geodog on a lead), and head towards the far corner.
