Park Information
History:
This beautiful walled garden was designed by Beatrix Farrand in 1912 for the Thomas Newbold family.  The Bellefield estate was purchased by the Newbolds in 1898.

At the turn of the last century, Beatrix was a woman working in a field usually limited to men; landscape architecture and design.  She studied botany at Harvard’s Arnold Arboretum in Boston.  She also traveled extensively throughout Europe studying garden design.

Beatrix Farrand was a role model for other women.  In 1899, the American Society of Landscape Architects was founded.  Out of the eleven founding members, Beatrix was the only woman.

Throughout her career, she designed many private and public gardens.  She is most know for the gardens at Dumbarton Oaks in Washington, D. C.

Did you know … that this garden was restored and is maintained by volunteers of the Beatrix Farrand Garden Association?

Thank you to JaMaBo for the artwork and jmonti for the cache container and maintenance!
