King's Inns Park is a beautiful park in Dublin's north inner city. Within this park is the amazing sight of a seat being devoured by a huge tree.
The park fronts the King's Inns building. It was originally called the Temple Gardens.
You can enter the park either from Henrietta Street, or Constitution Hill. The seat-eating tree is located just inside the south gate entrance to the park from Constitution Hill. This cache is not placed here, but at the rear of the fine buildings. The entrance gates are highly ornamental, and are set between massive granite piers. Across the pathway from the seat you will note an elegant gate-lodge.
It is believed both the tree and the seat date back to the early 1800s, when the Gandon-designed building was constructed.
A series of 'heels' have been added to the forelegs of the seat throughout the decades, to ensure the seat does not become unstable.
The cache is located at the Henrietta Street side, and entry to the park is through a cobbled courtyard. It it magnetic, placed beneath the railing surrounding the Kings Inns Library as the park is closed from 7.30 in the evening, and is thus available at any time. The park and building look magnificant in the evenings when the lights are turned on. When you walk through the courtyard and enter the park, the seat-eating tree is located at the far corner on the left-hand side.
