Howth Tramway Trail: Bridge Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

fitzet: With sadness, I'm letting this one go. Two visits to GZ have to failed to locate the cache. The Howth Castle estate is now owned by property developers and the future of the area around GZ is uncertain.
Thank you to all who contributed to the 600+ visits since May 2013.

Geocache Description:

One of three caches set along the Howth Tramway walk, a waypointed walk managed by Fingal County Council which follows part of the route of the Howth Tram.

The tram crossed Harbour Road via a bridge that has since been removed. The abutments remain to be seen on both sides of the road. This cache is set a short walk uphill from Harbour Road, close to the boundary of the Deer Park estate.

This image was created by Phil Lang using an archive photograph of the tram crossing the bridge, merged with a contemporary image taken from Google StreetView. It is displayed here with his permission.

The National Transport Museum, in the grounds of Howth Castle, houses Tram No. 9, the last tram to operate on the line and also the last public tram service in Ireland. This museum is a short walk from Howth station (less than 10 minutes). Their website is www.nationaltransportmuseum.org.

Cache
