Hours are variable with the seasons. Please see https://www.nps.gov/natr/planyourvisit/hours.htm for the most updated schedule. Mount Locust Inn and Plantation is one of the oldest structures still standing in the local area; being erected in 1780 and restored by the National Park Service in 1954 to its 1820 appearance. The house was built by John Blommart and then purchased by William and Paulina Ferguson. Paulina later married James Chamberlain after the death of William. The Ferguson-Chamberlain family burial area sits on the southwest corner of the grounds. By 1785, an increasing number of boatmen known as “Kaintucks” were floating flatboats down the Mississippi River to sell their goods at the markets in Natchez and New Orleans. Without an efficient way to navigate up the Mississippi River, the boatmen walked north on the Natchez Trace to make their way home. A day’s walk from Natchez brought the Kaintucks to Mount Locust where the Fergusons turned their home into an inn for which the price was 25 cents a night for room and board. For open times, please see https://www.nps.gov/natr/planyourvisit/hours.htm Please ask about ranger-led activities.
