A traditional cache not far from a site of historic interest..... and Mole Avon.
The cache is on East Hill above the town of Okehampton. It is near an Iron Age hillfort that traditions claims was once a Roman Fort. It is suggested that this stood on or near to roads that would have led to Exeter. (But we believe that it's just because it is handy for Mole Avon!) A hoard of some 200 Roman coins was discovered on East Hill. These were said to have dated from the time of reign of Severus which would date them to no earlier than AD193. It is said that Julius Caesar visited the nearby town of Lydford. Near to where our cache is placed is the 'Roman Chair'; an rock outcrop that had been fashioned to look like a stone chair. Hence why our cache has taken this name! This cache is found on Dartmoor National Park and complies with the DNPA agreement. This agreement can be found on: http://www.dartmoor-npa.gov.uk/visiting/vi-enjoyingdartmoor/geocaching
