This church has been used for at least 800yrs, formerly a Chapel of Ease to the priory of Easebourne , where priests came from to say Mass at Midhurst until the Reformation . This church has a dual dedication to St. Mary Magdelene and St. Denys . The church formerly stood within the ground of Midhurst Castle; the castle was dismantled by the Bishop of Durham sometime between 1284 and 1311 after the earlier owners abandoned it in favour of Cowdray in 1280. Consisting of chancel and nave flanked by aisles on both sides, the church was largely rebuilt in the Perpendicular style in 1422, towards the end of the reign of Henry V. Additions were made during an extensive restoration in 1881
