The Invisible Killer:
Dihydrogen Monoxide (DHMO) is a colourless, odourless and tasteless chemical that kills uncounted thousands of people every year. Most of these deaths are caused by accidental inhalation, but the dangers of dihydrogen monoxide are many. Even prolonged exposure to its solid form causes severe tissue damage. Symptoms of DHMO ingestion can include excessive sweating and urination and possibly a bloated feeling, nausea, vomiting and blood electrolyte imbalance. DMHO withdrawal means certain death within days.
Dihydrogen Monoxide:
- Is called "hydroxyl acid", the substance is the major component of acid rain.
- Contributes to the "greenhouse effect".
- May cause severe burns.
- Is fatal if inhaled.
- Contributes to the erosion of our natural landscape.
- Accelerates corrosion and rusting of many metals.
- May cause electrical failures and decreased effectiveness of automobile brakes.
- Has been found in excised tumours of terminally ill cancer patients.
Contamination Is Reaching Epidemic Proportions:
Quantities of dihydrogen monoxide have been found in almost every stream, lake and reservoir in Ireland today. But the pollution is global, and the contaminant has even been found in Antarctic Ice. DHMO has caused millions of Euros of property damage in the Shannon Basin and recently more closely to home in Thomastown & Graiguenamanagh.

Despite the Danger, Dihydrogen Monoxide is Often Used:
- As an industrial solvent and coolant.
- In nuclear power plants.
- In the production of styrofoam.
- As a fire retardant.
- In many forms of cruel animal research.
- In the distribution of pesticides, even after washing products remain contaminated by this chemical.
- As an additive in certain 'junk foods' and other food products.
Companies often dump waste DHMO into rivers, lakes and the ocean as the practice is still legal. The impact on wildlife is extreme, and we cannot afford to ignore it any longer!
The Horror Must Be Stopped:
The American government and European Authorities have refused to ban the production, distribution, of use of this damaging chemical due to its "importance to the economic health of nations". In fact, the navy and other military organisations are conducting experiments with DHMO and designing multi billion Euro/Dollar devices to control and utilise it during warfare situations. Hundreds of military research facilities recieve tons of it through a highly sophisticated underground distribution network. Many store large quantities for later use.
The Cache:
The cache is placed on the easily accessible summit of Slieve Coillte. From the co-ordinates copious amounts of DHMO can be viewed from a safe distance. However due to the on-going risks associated with this chemical and its calamitous outcomes, a difficulty of five is attributed to this cache. If you cannot see any DHMO from this point it most likely means that large amounts have evaporated into the surrounding atmosphere and it may be too late by then to get safe. Be careful, be brave but above all bring a good umbrella........
