Geocache Description:

This is a night cache!
BYOP

The R21/R24 interchange is quite unique in that it has a railway (The Gautrain), some secondary roads, the R21 and R24 highways, and access to and from the airport.

The interchange lies between Kempton Park (to the north west), OR Tambo airport (to the east) and Isando (to the south west). It is the eastern beginning of the R24 towards the Gillooly's interchange, and links the R21 which starts to the north in Pretoria to the N12 highway and other towns in Ekurhuleni (such as Benoni and Boksburg).

What makes this interchange quite unique is that it has secondary roads going through the interchange (on the southern side), as well as a railway line, which belongs to the Gautrain (on the northern side). This means one can get to the airport either by highway, secondary road, or train. Technically there is a 4th way to get to the airport and that is by ..... aeroplane.

The interchange is a combination of the clover leave, as well as stack interchange or more commonly referred to as a “Cloverstack interchange”

If one is going from R24 west bound, and you want to join the R21 South bound you will use a clover leaf road to merge from the one high-way to the other.
On the other hand going from the R21 South bound merging with the R24 east bound you will use a stack interchange.

Some interesting facts:
- The R24 is one of the very few highways which will not be tolled by the government with its new tolling project.
- This means that as soon as one leaves the R24 (east bound) and one merges with the R21 north bound there is a gantry (named Hornbill) which starts the tolling of your journey on the R21 north (R 3.54 for a light motor vehicle as at 2012/11/15).
- This gantry can be bypassed by driving into the airport, and then taking the R21 north bound.
