This cache can be found at the listed coordinates. But it's a challenge cache and before you can log a find on it, you need to meet the criteria for the challenge. However this is a challenge that anyone can meet, with just a little planning.
It’s easy to go out for a day of caching and get a lot of finds. But in general, most of those finds will be traditionals. This challenge is meant to encourage you to branch out in your caching habits and look for other cache types.
To log a find on this challenge cache, you must find at least 5 different cache types inside any 24 hour period commencing at 00:01 am and ending at 12 midnight. Your 5 finds must be independent of this cache, you cannot use it as one of the qualifying caches.
Any cache type listed separately on GC is fine. There are 8 different types of caches normally available in the Sydney/Blue Mountains area, but if you look at your statistics page, you will find many other types. If the 5 cache types you find are on this list, they count, as long as the finds are within the 24 hour time constraint. This is a GC challenge, so all finds must be GC caches. I've added a link to the challenge checker on project.gc below.
If you’re attending an event, you will only need 4 other cache types on that day, so attending an event outside your normal caching area is an easy way to meet this challenge. That's what I did to get the finds listed below on 28 October 2012.
Your found log for this cache must include a list of your qualifying caches, showing cache type, name and GC code.
You are welcome to find this cache and sign the log ahead of meeting the requirements, just don’t log a find until you qualify (a note is fine). And it’s also fine to have met the requirement in the past. If you’ve already had a day where you found 5 or more cache types, you can go find this cache straight away. However, I will review cache logs to check that log dates haven’t been edited. Any found logs which do not meet the requirements will be deleted.
The cache itself will require a bit of a bush bash to reach. Park at the end of Ellison Road, ignore the Sydney Water track to the left & take the bush track to the right. You can follow the track for a while, but eventually you will need to leave the track & find your way through the scrub. You are looking for an ammo can.
If you explore the area around GZ, you will find an interesting looking 'fortress' about 20m from where the cache is hidden. At first I thought this was something built by children to play in, but now I'm thinking maybe someone used this to sleep in, and built up the rocks for protection from the weather. For whatever reason it was built, it doesn't look like it has been used for some time and we couldn't find any sign of a track leading to it.
