1866 saw the terminus building at Moretonhampsted open about a quarter of a mile south of the main village - the end of a most scenic route. The station building - now sadly gone was a similar size, style and construction as Bovey and indeed at Bovey, you can visit the station come museum at certain times and see a model of how Moretonhampstead looked back in its heyday. The site is now owned by a local haulage firm. There is still a lovely goods shed near to the road and further down the yard the engine shed which is now a listed building. Also, part of the platform is still in tact.
After WW2, the Moretonhampstead branch line was not making enough money and passenger services were stopped by BR, who by now owned the station, in 1959 with freight continuing for a further five years.
