Geocache Description:

This cache is placed on a tarmac footpath/cycleroute that runs alongside the A38. I have included a parking waypoint - this is the recommended spot to park; please do not attempt to park on the A38. From parking there is a slight rise but wheelchair users should be fine especially if being assisted - help may be required to retrieve container.
PLEASE BRING YOUR OWN PEN

This cache fills the gap between my Really SideTracked caches at Teigngrace and Bovey Tracey.

Heathfield station opened on 1/7/1874 as Chudleigh Road, becoming Heathfield in 1882. It closed in 1967, another victim of railway closures during this time. Carriage of fuel oil, ball clay and bananas continued here until 1975 after which, the only notable visitors were the Prince and Princess of Wales in 1983 staying the night near Teigngrace. I have started a campaign to bring back passenger services between Heathfield and Newton Abbot as I believe this to be viable with the quantity of traffic on the roads in this area.
