This is the S²E² series. We've all heard of S²D², and some people may think a load of 35mm pots out in the countryside is akin to this. The walk is mostly 25/35mm pots however there are some larger caches out there. But if mostly 35mm pots is not for you, please don't try this very long trail and then moan about it.
S²E² refers to the four villages taken in by the walk: Spaldwick, Stow Longa, Ellington and Easton which also allow you to pick up their respective church micros as well as one of my dozen dashes and one of my "Hills of Hunts" caches. A small diversion will also allow you to grab a couple of mummymel's local caches, another dozen dashes cache and some of the Woolley Mammoth. There are even the final locations of several local puzzle caches close by.
The entire circuit is approximately 23km or 14 miles so will probably take you 7 hours or so. Or you can split it into two 7 mile loops utilising the dozen dashes(Easton), Woolley Mammoth #29 and 2 Three Shires Way link caches to skip from #34 to #85, or even park up between those two and do the circuit as a figure of eight!
There are 2 pubs on route in Ellington and in Spaldwick which will provide the best places to park.
There and no fields with cows, but one has horses in it.
The walk should be bikeable in good weather but there are a few stiles and hills on route; there is very little road walking and some very good tracks but some of the paths can get very muddy in wet weather.
Currently there is a bridge down near Brampton Wood on the section between Grafham and Ellington near #57 but there is an alternate path along the edge of Brampton Wood itself so the walk is not interrupted.
At time of setting the route it could be very wet and cloudy so sometimes the coordinates maybe slightly out. I have endeavoured to satellite image check them all but please let me know your readings if you do find some very bad coordinates.
There is a large re-work of the public rights of way in the area with some paths being extinguished and some being created. I have tried to set the walk along the new routes where possible to minimise future maintenance requirements but if you have any problems with cache placement on the new routes please let me know so I can sort it ASAP.
