Geocache Description:

Hey, Geocacher! This is the fifth of 20 coded geocaches on the Experience Cortland GeoTour. Discover the byways and secret hideaways of Cortland County in your quest to find hidden caches. Find ‘em all and be rewarded for your stealth. Record the unique CVB code identified on each geocache logbook onto the Experience Cortland GeoTour map (available online).

If you heard angels’ wings flutter in Lapeer, perhaps someone whispered Jerald Johnson’s name here.
Search beyond the “snow angel” wings to see it while back row geocaching.

Geocachers will appreciate this collection of historic snowplows (“snow angels” in geocache parlance) on outdoors display, courtesy of Jerald Johnson. “I want people to see them,” says Mr. Johnson.

These 100% positive-traction snow movers, which reached maximum speeds in the 40 mph range, blasted through driving snow on Main Streets and snowdrifts on back county roads. Walter Snow Fighters were relied on during the mid-20th century, when mythical winters could keep fire trucks and beer trucks from getting through, or maroon an eager child from attending school.

Across the road, and on the National Register of Historic Places, is the Stage Coach Inn, also known as Royal Johnson House. This 1830 Greek Revival style private residence once served as a home, post office, and hostelry to early county travelers, as well as a dance hall.
