North Bastion Wall Traditional Geocache

This cache has been archived.

nathogib: I am removing all of my geocaches in protest to geocaching.com's new approach to geocaching.
I do not approve of the new way in which we are being practically forced into becoming Premium members. I think that geocaching.com have forgotten that there are many 1000s of geocachers like myself who hide and maintain the caches this sport and their business rely upon.
I'm sorry to do this, but I am not willing to pay Premium Membership and will henceforth no longer maintain my caches or geocache.
Good luck to those who continue practising the sport and thanks for all the logs and favourite points.

Geocache Description:

Part of the Gibraltar wall's series cache .   At the entrance of Grand Casemates square.  Another great example of Gibraltar's fortifications!  If you like this cache then check out 'The last wall' http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_Bastion,_Gibraltar

A small plastic box wedged in the wall.  Please try to return it to the same place. No need to pull the wall apart! The North Bastion, formerly the Baluarte San Pablo (St. Paul's Bastion) was part of the fortifications of Gibraltar, in the north of the peninsula, protecting the town against attack from the mainland of Spain. The bastion was based on the older Giralda tower, built in 1309. The bastion, with a mole that extended into the Bay of Gibraltar to the west and a curtain wall stretching to the Rock of Gibraltar on its east, was a key element in the defenses of the peninsula. After the British took Gibraltar in 1704 they further strengthened these fortifications, flooding the land in front and turning the curtain wall into the Grand Battery. Today, the bastion is surrounded by reclaimed land to the west and north. Glacis Road runs along the base of the bastion's former glacis. Smith Dorrien Avenue separates the bastion from the curtain wall, which is still largely intact. The bastion is occupied by the Giralda Gardens and a pétanque club. The government has plans to rehabilitate the site as part of a plan to develop the old fortifications as tourist attractions.
